Bellevue Athletic face consequential double-header to close out Spring 2025 regular-season play
Written By Adam Race
Bellevue Athletic are preparing for a double-dose of action this week, as they face off with International FC on Thursday in the Washington State Super Cup Semi Finals, and take on Thurston County Soccer Academy on Saturday in the final regular season match of UPSL Spring 2025.
Both matches carry heavy weight for Bellevue’s hope of a Spring treble, as they have a chance to advance to their first ever Washington State Super Cup final as well as clinch their second-straight regular season UPSL-Washington title in the span of just four days.
BAFC are coming off a crucial 3-2 win against SeaGam FC on Sunday at Bellevue College, and have now won six straight UPSL matches. Including Washington State Super Cup competition, Bellevue are 9-1-1 in 2025, undefeated in their last eight games, and in position to compete for multiple trophies in the coming weeks.
Led by nine goals from Owen Gortner over their last five games, and an impressive 1.00 goals against average from Matt Janke, the Eastside Boys have averaged a 4-1 win across all competitive matches this season.
Thursday’s match against FC International is an opportunity for Bellevue to advance to the Washington State Super Cup final for the first time in club history. BAFC made the semi finals back in 2022, where they fell on penalties to USL2 side FC Olympia
On Sunday, Bellevue will take the trip down to Olympia to take on Thurston County Soccer Academy at Timberline High School at 6pm. A Bellevue win would be the final piece of a repeat regular-season title in UPSL-Washington, and would clinch home field advantage through the state playoffs.
Bellevue players and staff have repeated over the last few games the importance of home-field advantage, so finishing the job will be crucial.
In the super cup, Bellevue will have a chance to make their first ever final. “We have a chance to make Bellevue history,” said Head Coach Mike Mata following BAFC’s 5-0 quarterfinal win over Esperance FC back in April.
The Super Cup match will take place at Robinswood Park in Bellevue at 8:35 PM on Thursday. Admission will be free.
Last Match vs. Thurston: 21-2 Win
Bellevue’s season-opening win over Thurston County back in April was a historic one, with BAFC posting their club record for goals in a game with an incredible 21, including 13 unanswered second-half goals.
The game included three hat-tricks, six goals by debutants and 14 different players with goal contributions.

Bold = Bellevue Athletic Debut
Bellevue cannot get complacent however. Their last trip to Thurston County was not smooth sailing. In the Fall 2024 UPSL season Bellevue opened their campaign in the south sound against Thurston and came away with a hard-fought 3-2 win thanks to a hat-trick from Dawda Dibba. The Eastside Boys will look to remain perfect all-time against Thurston and lock up a second straight regular season UPSL-Washington crown.
Washington State Super Cup Semi-Finals
Bellevue have a chance to make club history on Thursday, as a win against former UPSL opponents FC International would put them into their first ever cup final.
The Washington State Super Cup is an annual single-elimination cup competition that is competed for by amateur and pre-professional teams around the state. The last two iterations have been won by Yakima United. This is Bellevue’s third time competing in the cup.
In 2022, Bellevue Athletic made the Super Cup semi-finals after defeating FC International on penalties before being knocked out by USL-2 side FC Olympia. In 2024, Bellevue were eliminated by Skagit Athletic on penalties in the first round. In this year’s tournament, Bellevue defeated UPSL rivals United Sports FC 5-1 at Bellevue College, and lower-league Esperance FC 5-0 in the quarterfinals, reaching the semifinal round for the second time.
FC International are a club based in Olympia that finished 3rd in the Fall 2024 UPSL-Washington season, making it to the state semi-finals. In this year’s Super Cup, FC International defeated Skagit Premier 12-0 in the first round, and narrowly beat EPLWA side Skagit Athletic 2-1 on the road in the quarterfinals to advance to Thursday’s semifinal match.
The winner of Thursday’s match will advance to the final to face EPLWA side Rat City FC
